In 2011, students from the University of California Merced were given the opportunity to work one summer session in Yosemite alongside park staff. This internship program connected hands-on learning to practical, field-based experiences while inspiring stewardship, emergent leadership skills and allowing for the completion of a tangible product for use within Yosemite.
The internship culminated in a symposium held in Yosemite Valley where students presented their projects to the visiting public and park managers. These professional applied projects tackled issues central to park protection and continue to serve as resources that benefit the park's ongoing management.
This internship provided a way for students to gain valuable skills while giving back to Yosemite by contributing their research and skills.
